2012 SAG Awards Nominees Announced

So, the 2012 Screen Actors Guild Awards nominees were announced this morning.

SAG Awards Nominees

More to come after this short break for some Whoppers...

I'm going to refrain from commenting on the Motion Picture categories until I've seen all the movies (Yeah yeah, I know. I'm lazy and cheap. But only so many hours in the day for a struggling student and writer.)

But the Television categories, well, all I can say is WHAT THE FUCK!!!

There are two egregious errors that should have never happened: Claire Danes wasn't nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series and Aaron Paul not getting nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series.

Let's start with Claire Danes. Not only should she have been nominated, but she should'e been a shoe-in to win the award. For anyone who has been watching 'Homeland' this year, the way Danes has portrayed CIA Analyst Carrie Mathison suffering from Bipolar disorder (and having to keep it secret from the agency) has been so astounding, so mesmerizing, that this is a no-brainer. Especially after her performance in season 1's penultimate episode 'The Vest' and episode seven 'The Weekend'. I'm not taking anything away from the other nominees, but Danes has been so great this year on 'Homeland' that it makes absolutely zero sense for her not to be nominated.

What the SAG award voters were thinking when they nominated Patrick J. Adams over Aaron Paul, I will never know. It has nothing to do with how I think of Adams as actor. He his very good on 'Suits'. He has great chemistry with both his main co-stars in Gabriel Macht and Meghan Markle. But 'Suits' isn't anywhere on par as a drama as 'Breaking Bad' is, and Adams isn't anywhere on par as a dramatic actor as Paul is. Aaron Paul turned the best, not only dramatic, but overall performance by an actor this entire year, followed closely by his co-star (and deserved nominee) Bryan Cranston. Paul hit every cord with Jesse Pinkman perfectly in season 4. From having to deal with his wracking guilt over his execution of Gale in the season 3 finale, being pressured by Walter to kill Gus with the ricin, trying to be a good man for Andrea by getting her out of the barrio she lives in, as well as dealing with Gus and Mike trying to turn him against Walter. Paul was amazing this season, and for his peers in the Screen Actors Guild to not recognize him for this is a travesty to the highest manner.

The other categories I had less of a problem. I would have personally placed Amy Poehler over Sofia Vergara in Outstanding Performance by a Female Actress in a Comedy. I also would've placed the cast of 'Parks and Recreation' over 'Glee' for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble Cast in a Comedy Series.

But, in all seriousness, what the fuck were the SAG voters smoking?
